MetaFund Promotes Reed to Chief Executive

For Immediate Release: June 1, 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY —Oklahoma-based nonprofit MetaFund announced today that Sarah Reed has been promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer. Reed joined MetaFund in 2014 and most recently served as Chief Operating and Financial Officer. She replaces founder and long-time CEO, Tom Loy, who launched the organization in 1999 as a Community Development Financial Institution focused on ensuring equitable access to capital and financing otherwise nonbankable projects. Loy will continue to serve as Board Chair.

“Sarah is an excellent leader and manager, as well as a trusted and admired colleague. Combining that with her strong institutional and industry knowledge, she will be an outstanding President and CEO! I am proud and delighted to pass the leadership of MetaFund to her,” said Loy.

Reed is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), with a Master of Science in Accountancy from Oklahoma State University. Prior to joining MetaFund, she served as a senior audit manager with KPMG LLP in their Oklahoma City practice. She has more than 11 years of experience providing financial statement audit and audit of internal control. During her tenure at KPMG, Reed provided audit and audit-related services to a variety of private and public entities with an emphasis on nonprofit, governmental, and other public sector entities, as well as financial service and insurance. Over the last nine years at MetaFund, Reed has utilized her experiences in public accounting and has overseen all financial reporting, compliance & regulation, portfolio management, human resources, and operational functions.

“I am honored to serve in this new capacity alongside our dedicated and talented staff, our governing and advisory boards, and our partners working to ensure all Oklahomans have access to resources needed to live a good life,” said Reed. “The impact investing landscape in Oklahoma is rapidly changing, and MetaFund is committed to building on our prior successes while continuing to evolve in response to the needs of our public, nonprofit, and private sector customers.”

“Looking forward to this next chapter at MetaFund, my goal is to continue Tom’s legacy of compassionate capitalism, where we can deploy capital into underinvested communities, provide significant positive impacts for the people in those communities, and still continue as a responsible, self-sustaining financial institution,” she added.

MetaFund also announced the promotion of Steve Holmes from Assistant Controller to Controller. Holmes joined MetaFund in February 2023. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business and Public Management from the State University of New York in Utica, and prior to MetaFund worked for Griffin Media and the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
