Robert has experience as a banker, financial executive, accountant, and commercial construction consultant. He joined MetaFund in 2013, having retired from a 30-year career in banking.

Early experience included financial and accounting positions with a regional electrical contractor and a multi-national chemical company. Having successfully passed the November 1981 CPA examination, he then began his career with the accounting firm of KPMG (formerly Peat Marwick) in St. Louis, Missouri, later transferring to their Oklahoma City Office. Although his client base was diverse, he specialized in the financial services area. At KPMG, Robert received training as a bank audit specialist and a computer audit specialist. After leaving KPMG, he served as assistant controller and then controller of an Oklahoma City bank which specialized in correspondent banking services.

In 1987, Robert began his 26 year career at MidFirst Bank as Director of Financial Planning. He became Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer a few years later, then moved to the operations side of the bank in 1995, serving as Chief Operating Officer. In 1997 he became president of the bank, overseeing a significant expansion of MidFirst’s retail and commercial banking businesses. During that time, the bank entered several new markets in Oklahoma, including Tulsa, Edmond, and Norman, growing the Oklahoma network from 22 offices to 50.

Robert also led the development of MidFirst’s highly regarded commercial banking business, and its multi-billion-dollar lending portfolio. He then led MidFirst’s expansion into the Phoenix, Arizona market in 1995, assembling a successful retail, commercial, and private banking team, and overseeing the development of approximately 20 retail banking offices. During Robert’s tenure, the bank grew from less than $1 billion in assets, to over $10 billion, and its capital base grew from approximately $30 million to over $1 billion. MidFirst has consistently been recognized as among the best performing banks in the United States, and is one of the five largest privately owned banks nationally.

Robert has lived, studied, and worked in St. Louis, Tampa, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, and New York. In addition to his banking and financial career, he was an instructor for the Becker CPA review course for 10 years. From 2008 to 2012, Robert served as a consultant for one of the largest commercial construction companies in New York.

He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Missouri, St. Louis, where he was a Curators’ scholar, a University Scholar, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Robert has served on the boards of MidFirst Bank, Lyric Theatre, and the United Way of Oklahoma City, as well as the audit committee of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. He resides in Oklahoma City with his wife and son.
