MetaFund Hires Holmes as Assistant Controller

Media Release: February 2, 2023

OKLAHOMA CITY — MetaFund, an Oklahoma City-based nonprofit, proudly announces the recent addition of Steve Holmes. Originally from upstate New York, Holmes is loving life in the Sooner State and joins the MetaFund team as Assistant Controller.

“We are excited to have Steve join the MetaFund team. He brings a broad background of private company, public sector, and nonprofit accounting and auditing experience that will be valuable to our operations as we continue to develop more efficient processes for managing our growing portfolio of investments,” said Sarah Reed, MetaFund’s Chief Finance and Operations Officer.

A graduate of State University of New York in Utica with a bachelor’s degree in Business and Public Management, Holmes began his early career operating retail stores in the paint industry in Virginia and South Carolina. Knowing that accounting was in his veins, he jumped at the opportunity to become an auditor with the Commonwealth of Virginia, an opportunity for which he said he is forever grateful. In that position, Holmes audited a wide array of Virginia’s agencies, from colleges and universities to the retirement system and 529 education savings plan. During his tenure as an auditor, he returned to the collegiate world at Virginia Commonwealth University to prepare for and ultimately pass the CPA exam.

Holmes and his wife soon relocated to Oklahoma to be near family. He spent the next eight years working his way up the ladder at Oklahoma’s Griffin Media to Controller and Director of Financial Reporting. Holmes then worked as controller at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation before joining MetaFund. In his downtime, Steve and his wife enjoy live music and concerts, biking, and vacationing to warm climates.
