JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Business Development Officer

Reports to: President

Status: Full-time; exempt (32-hour work week)

Location: Oklahoma

Position Summary

The Business Development Officer (BDO) is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and securing high-quality loan opportunities primarily through existing partnerships with financial institutions secondarily with, credit unions, technical assistance providers, economic development organizations, and other key referral sources. The ideal candidate is financially oriented, relationship-driven, well-organized, accountable, and passionate about connecting underserved businesses with the capital they need to grow.

As we grow our small business lending portfolio to serve the “nearly bankable” segment—businesses that are close to qualifying for conventional financing but need additional capital and technical assistance —we’re seeking a skilled Business Development Officer to lead the identification and cultivation of loan opportunities through strong referral networks.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. Business Development & Outreach

  • Serve as the initial point of contact and primary liaison for existing referral partners to source loan opportunities and assess preliminary eligibility.

  • Identify and develop relationships with additional referral sources including banks, credit unions, and other business support organizations.

  • Actively promote MetaFund’s lending products (including small business loans, New Market Tax Credits enhanced loans, and Impact Collaborative loans) to referral partners through meetings, presentations, and participation in community events.

  • Periodically represent MetaFund at relevant networking and community functions

 

2. Pipeline Generation & Management

  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of qualified small business loan opportunities that align with MetaFund’s deployment, mission and credit guidelines and goals.

  • Provide support to the Chief NMTC Officer and the President of the Impact Collaborative, as you learn about these important programs.

  • Maintain accurate referral tracking, lead status, and outreach activities in MetaFund’s CRM system.

  • Work closely with referral sources, as well as, underwriting and credit teams to ensure strong communication and a smooth transition from referral to loan closing.

  • Work closely with the credit team during the underwriting and approval process

  • Track and report relevant metrics including weekly sales calls, prospects, pipeline, etc.

 

3. Market Insight & Strategy

  • Monitor trends in small business credit needs, especially in underserved markets, and provide feedback to inform product development and marketing strategies.

  • Identify gaps in capital access and recommend innovative outreach or partnership models to serve those segments.

 

4. Relationship Management

  • Cultivate long-term, trust-based relationships with key stakeholders to position MetaFund as a preferred community lending partner.

  • Provide regular updates to partners on loan programs, impact stories, and borrower outcomes.

 

5. General

  • Gain an understanding of social impact investing and all lending programs of MetaFund

  • Work effectively in a team environment and coordinate activities with all constituencies

  • Come to meetings prepared, honor work commitments, meet deadlines

  • Honor the private and confidential matters of customers and MetaFund

  • Must be passionate about community development and promoting MetaFund in the community and among its partner banks

 

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Accounting, finance, or business degree preferred

  • 3+ years of experience in small business management, lending, commercial banking, accounting, financial services, or community economic development

  • Basic knowledge of bank lending products

  • Proficiency with use of Microsoft Office products

  • Self-starter, ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively in a small team

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills

  • Mission-driven with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive economic development

  • Familiarity with CDFIs, lending programs, or impact investing is a plus

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout Oklahoma
